As indicated in previous chapter, the data matrix symbol is really a series of lines formatted with data matrix font. To transfer the barcode to another program, click the copy button to transfer the bar code string to the clipboard, and use the paste functionality to paste it into the target application.
The encoder GUI program places the barcode string in both RTF and TEXT formats. If the application understands RTF, you get a barcode instantly. Those programs include Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint. If the program does not understand RTF, you will get a series of plain text lines instead. Format those characters and you get the barcode.
Note
To get a quality barcode, the line gap must be 0 or very small. Unfortunately, not all programs honor the settings in the font. Some programs insert extra spaces between lines to make a text paragraph looks good. When that is the case, try to find out if the program has an option of reducing the line gap. If that option is not available, try using the typefaceMRV DataMatrixR1 and see if the problem is solved.
One particular example is Microsoft Excel, which
inserts large amount of spaces between lines anyway. As a result,
you can not create data
matrix barcode in Excel. If you need to add data matrix barcodes to Excel
spreadsheets, use our Barcode ActiveX product instead.
